We are narcissisticly obsessed with proving this and debunking that, while living in a technological world in which anything fake can be made to seem real, and anything real can be made to seem fake. This makes it so what is and is not real is unimportant. What is important, is being authentic in a world of lies. That is the only way to learn to be the change you want to create and the only way to figure out what you want so that you can decide who to be, instead of blindly obeying society's edicts about whom you're allegedly supposed to be.

Doesn't that depend on the nature of the problem?  For example, the industrial revolution grew out of innovative and inventive thinking about technological progress.  This lead to a bunch of problems including (among other things) severe environmental problems, pollution, exposing people to toxins, and so on.  But it was that same innovation and invention that helped us find solutions like cleaner technologies.
