Conversation With A Flat Earther

Description

Matter is made of energy and energy is made of light, so I really don't care what the shape of the Earth is or is not. It is irrelevant. What I find interesting (and disturbing) is that these people tend to just shout "the Earth is flat!" as a reply to ANY QUESTION you give them, and sometimes when you don't even ask anything they'll pop up at random sometimes -- though those may just be trolls. In either case, I've yet to get a straight answer out of any of these people, and rightly so -- as there is no straight answer, nor any real one, that they could possibly have.

Different flat Earthers also have different ideas about what the whole "flat Earth" thing even means. So, exactly just as with RELIGION even the Flat Earthers can't agree with each other on anything (big surprise, right? lol).

The most common accepted view is the most nuts. That the Earth is flat, just because unicorns, the mandella effect, some ancient map and they say so. That the sun is -- well, they don't know, so -- because GOD, thats why. The moon is -- well, they don't know and do not care about a rational science answer so yet again -- because GOD, thats why. That the stars are, well -- I think you're noticing a repeating pattern here. Fuck physics, it is just because it is, and anyone who says otherwise -- get angry with them on web forums.

The next amended idea sounds "less nuts" because it does not throw physics entirely on its head. If you've ever watched that new TV Series called "The Magicians" there is a magical world called "Fillory" which is a 3D "floating in space" sort of model, for what a non-sphere structure might look like, if it existed in space. Though not all of the physics of it are explained in detail, you see a swirling vortex of energy swirling around it, which might be how it spins to be capable of day and night, and so on. So this kind of idea is capable of remaining within the realms of 3D science because though we've not yet seen such a thing, there is no physics absolutely saying it couldn't happen. Hell, according to science even life itself has extremely picky conditions, which is why many of us wonder whether or not we are or are not alone in the Universe, but also -- the Universe is so huge that even if life is rare relative to available galactic real estate -- that in the larger picture -- there is so much life you can't even count it.

The last one is pure science fiction, though not "impossible". If you flatten a map of the Earth, you could reshape the entire Earth map into the top quarter of a larger sphere. You can imagine this sort of structure if you have ever watched The Avatar movie and recall those floating magnetic islands on Pandora. Imagine something like that floating in space, and that it might even have been constructed by and maintained by, some race of beings -- how human-like or not is unknown -- that use technology in order to compensate for things that might otherwise not be physically possible in nature, but instead are being maintained artificially. Kind of like how when we have pet fish or something, we can come close to nature with our technology -- but not an exact perfect match to it. So anything that uses technology will have some noticeable discrepancies when compared to natural processes, because science can only use nature or mimic nature, but it can't create nature.

So it all boils down to two basic explanations:

God, because unicorns, and I say so.
Aliens, because Elvis, and I say so.

Any theory anyone has about whatever, is all well and fine with me. I'm discussing attitudes here. Flat Earthers are not by far the only group that has been notorious for the "because I say so" attitude. There is another group of people who also do this, that you might be familiar with. They are called, HUMANITY.

I get the same reactions when I tell people that there is no proven link between vaccines and autism.
