Nice guys seem to do this a lot without meaning to. We want to prove to our female friends that we can relate on their level. While quoting all of the wonderful wise words that a female said might work for Historical Figures -- when it comes to girls you used to know or still do know, it can make another girl feel as if you are expecting her to live up to your expectations of the other girls you know or used to know in your past.
So only drop names or that the information was even inspired by a third party source when its context appropriate. Otherwise, just express your version of the knowledge in your own words and in your own way. I know we have a tenancy to feel as if this is some sort of plajorism, which is only mildly true if you are trying to bring yourself up at the expense of others. But if all you are looking to do is show you can relate, then everyone has the right to their opinions, thoughts and feelings no matter what. Even if some of them were inspired by or inherited from others. You still reserve the right to be you if you feel that these things are a part of you.
So, express how you feel about being able to relate to a female friend based on your own views. Sure, you can draw from the strength of your past experiences, but don't make her feel in competition with them.
You can show her that you are a loyal and dependable friend without making her feel as if she has to compete with your past.
